Walk-In:
- Inform reception you want to participate in A Way Out
- A deputy will coordinate an immediate intake and screening with the Lake County Health Department
- Individuals experiencing an acute withdrawal will be assisted
- Locate the call box on the wall and tell dispatch you want to participate in A Way Out
- A deputy will be with you shortly to take you through the next steps
- Individuals will immediately begin intake
- A deputy will provide an escort for any individual who cannot transport themselves

- No fees for A Way Out; fees for addiction treatment services vary
- No one will be turned away due to inability to pay
Service area
Lake County, IL
Provides drug users a fast-track to addiction treatment services. Allows individuals to call or walk-in to a participating Lake County police department to request help. Individuals may surrender any drugs or paraphernalia without risk of criminal charges. A deputy will immediately coordinate phone screening with the Lake County Health Department. Based on the evaluation, individual will begin outpatient or inpatient treatment. Provides a police escort for any individuals who cannot transport themselves.
NOTE: If you are unable to pay for treatment due to lack of insurance or financial resources, you will not be turned away from participation. Participant will be matched with an available treatment provider that accepts commercial insurance, Medicaid Plan, or who provides financial assistance.
