Eligibility
Eligible properties must be located in Chicago, habitable, owner-occupied, and not at risk of foreclosure. The applicant's name must be listed on the deed to the property for a minimum of one year at the time of application. Households earning 80% or less of the area median income (AMI) are eligible to participate in the program. The total gross income of all owners and other household members shall be included and many not exceed this limit. The gross income of all adults, 18 and older, who reside in the property, are included to determine income eligibility.

Application process
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and funding is limited. Applications can be completed online or downloaded and returned to: Department of Housing, Attn: Emergency Heating Repair Program, 121 N Lasalle, Room 1000, 10th floor, Chicago, Illinois 60602.An inquirer who does not have an email address will need to call 311 to be sent a paper application package by mail to apply.

The Emergency Heating Repair Program (EHRP) provides service grants to assist income eligible, owner-occupants of 1-to-4-unit properties with emergency heating system replacements or repairs during the winter season. Qualified contractors complete all work at no cost to the homeowner. Please note, hot water tanks are not eligible for this program.
