Helps to prevent disease and improve the quality of life in Jo Daviess County. Programs include:

Coordinates and administers state codes related to environmental health and public safety. Services include issuing septic permits, inspecting septic systems, issuing well permits for water wells and geothermal wells for heating and cooling, inspecting wells, and conducting water testing. The program also investigates improper solid waste disposal, provides radon test kits, and conducts mold analysis to identify potential health risks in homes and other structures. Under the Department of Public Health, it enforces home sanitation standards by inspecting dwellings to ensure compliance with regulations regarding maintenance, sanitation, and safety, including the availability of hot and cold water, functioning sewage systems, and pest-free environments. Additionally, it conducts inspections of swimming pools, spas, and tattoo establishments in accordance with State Codes.

Offers a variety of public health services, including communicable disease control, tap water testing, pool sanitation, public health facility inspection, tuberculosis screening, immunizations, and more.
Administers the WIC program. Participants in WIC receive an eWIC card for healthy foods. The foods provided by WIC provide nutrients that are essential for good health and growth. Participants also meet with nurses and dietitians to review health and diet information, discuss important nutrition information for their family, and receive referrals for other services when needed.
Health and safety inspections of child care centers.
Investigates complaints regarding health or sanitation issues in child care centers.
Health and safety trainings to child care staff and provides child care health consultation services to local child care centers.
Offers testing of private wells, well and septic system inspection, radon testing and correction advice. Also provides swimming pool, spa, tanning bed, and tattoo parlor inspections. Complaints: Receives and investigates complaints dumping and other garbage issues, illegal burning, and animal bites. When possible, works with tenant complaints regarding rental home conditions.
Offers environmental health services including well water testing, septic permits, well closure or alternation reimbursement. Checks for lead poisoning, follows up on nuisance complaints. Provides food service inspections and licensing and more.
