- Ray and Kathy LaHood Center for Cerebral Palsy: Variety of diagnoses that impact movement and motor development, including but not limited to cerebral palsy, hypotonia, developmental delays, and genetic disorders. May assess the child's range of motion, gait pattern, orthotics, and other assistive technology equipment, review the child and family's needs, and work with the family and physician to establish a plan of care.
- Orthotics Clinic: Prescription for custom-fitted orthotics/braces to provide stability and support for proper positioning of the feet and ankles during standing, walking, and other functional activities.
Offers to lend medical health equipment to individuals in Whiteside County. Also accepts donated equipment. Types of equipment available include canes, crutches, walkers, hospital beds, wheelchairs, knee walkers, bedside commodes, toilet risers, shower/bath seats, bath transfer benches, bathtub rails, shower grab bars, 30" Reach/grab, icing machines, ankle and wrist weights, bed rails, toilet rails, and gait belts, surgical boots, sock aids and more.
Help veterans, seniors, and persons with disabilities with household items including furniture and bedding, hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs (including motorized), shower chairs, commodes and adult hygiene items. In addition, Carol's Closet can help families with newborn baby clothes to size 6 children's clothes, diapers, new cribs and car seats, baby essentials, and household items including dishes, furniture and bedding. Carol's Closet also has a handicap accessible van and standing lift for loan with a donation.
- Assists qualified individuals who are blind or have low-vision learn the skills needed to maintain an independent lifestyle.
- Provides a variety of low-vision aids and assistive devices at no cost.
- Offers referrals for additional services such as community orientation, mobility training, and guide dog services.
Provides informational and educational programming targeted toward a consumer or a group of consumers with the intent to develop or increase the skills, knowledge and/or abilities required to live, work and play in the community.
Programs offered include self-advocacy and awareness, life skills training, braille training, TTY training, personal assistant information, interpreter referrals and equipment demonstration and loan.
Offers amplified phones for those who have an amplified phone voucher. Once a person has their voucher, they can come to the center and try out each of the phones and select their preference.
Equipment available includes seating/positioning devices, bathing/toileting equipment, standing devices, wheeled mobility, and electronic aids to daily living. Evaluations and fittings provided.
Specific programs include:
- "Amtryke" program provides adapted tricycles.
- "iCan Bike" program teaches children how to ride a bicycle.
- Augmentative/Alternative Communication uses high-tech devices and low-tech strategies to facilitate communication and speech development.
Offers eyeglasses and hearing aids to those in need that do not have adequate resources with a referral from program or agency. Assists blind persons in obtaining guide dogs and Braille typewriters.
