Offers classes to empower former refugees as they overcome the language and cultural changes they face after arriving in the U.S. LSI offers accessible English classes and opportunities for participants to develop the cultural awareness and guidance they need to thrive in their new home. Registration and testing usually take 45 minutes to an hour. It is helpful if potential students bring and ID to make sure their names are spelled correctly.
Provides emergency preparedness and recovery resources are available for natural hazards such as droughts, earthquakes, floods, large-scale fires, tornadoes, and winter storms. Energy assistance program for low income households with assistance paying part of fuel bills through the winter months (Federal Fuel Assistance Program). Applications are accepted November-April. For those that are elderly or disabled, applications are accepted October-April. Call for an appointment. A letter has been sent to those who may be eligible for early application in August or September. **This program is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. This is a one-time payment to your energy provider.
Offers, as resources allow, to help refugees and asylees reach economic self-sufficiency and to them with any problems, interests and concerns they may have. The Bureau of Refugee Services works to serve as a central clearinghouse in order to refer refugees and asylees to any resource necessary and available to them. The Bureau is the service agency for all refugees enrolled in FIP, the state welfare reform program. Now offering a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program. This program will help participants prepare for the class, enroll into the DMACC CDL program at no cost, and obtain a job after completion. Participants will also qualify for “Jump Start” training specially designed to help English Language Learners.
